WYG
WYG has enjoyed 10 years of success and has grown its business on solid foundations. The roots of the business are in engineering consultancy, however, over the years the focus has changed to reflect global economic circumstances and market demand.
Steered over recent years by talented, ambitious people, WYG has successfully moved forward, expanding through a strategic balance of organic growth and acquisitions to offer an increased skills base and geographic reach. 'We recognise that our employees are our main asset and work hard to ensure that good performance is rewarded and that there is a robust career development framework for all staff,' said Liz Zukowski, Group HR Director.
At WYG, graduates are offered exciting opportunities to develop their skills and knowledge, working alongside qualified professionals. The traditional route allows graduates to directly enter their chosen specialism, additionally WYG is able to offer bespoke career paths enabling graduates to trial a range of disciplines across the business.
The Graduate Development Programme (GDP) is a 3 year structured personal development programme which complements graduates’ professional development. It helps to provide graduates with a record of competency skills to support their route to chartership as well as equipping them with some fundamental personal and leadership skills. "The graduates we bring into WYG are essential to our future, they are the oil in our engine, the bedrock for ensuring the firm can continue to grow," Liz explained. 'Alongside training programmes, graduates are supported in all aspects of planning their personal development, with sponsorship, mentoring and supervision to help them achieve their aims.'
WYG looks for graduates with a good degree in a generally related subject, but, just as importantly, people who have real enthusiasm and a hunger to apply their knowledge. Some of the current WYG accredited programmes include: Institution of Civil Engineers; Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers; Institute of Engineers of Ireland; Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management, Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors and the firm is a recognised Learning Partner with Royal Town Planning Institute. All staff at WYG have access to a range of learning and development opportunities at their fingertips through the online Learning Academy.

Graduate profile: Kate Gower
"Since joining WYG as a graduate three years ago I have experienced all aspects of civil engineering design from scheme feasibility through to detailed design including project and financial management experience with client-facing opportunities. Along the way WYG has supported me in my training towards becoming professionally qualified and in my personal development enabling me to become an ICE President’s Apprentice and Atkins Inspire Awards Finalist. To say I love my job is an understatement – the satisfaction of travelling to work over a bridge I designed myself is incredible, and the opportunities are there for all at WYG."
