What's your favourite structure?

As part of its Centenary celebrations, IStructE commissioned architectural artist Stephen Wiltshire MBE to draw the imaginary cityscape featuring buildings, bridges and complexes constructed since the Institution's formation in 1908. IStructE's Centenary marks the anniversary of its first ever council meeting which took place at the Ritz Hotel in London on 21 July 1908.

The structures were carefully chosen, not only as iconic examples of structural excellence, but also as instantly recognisable symbols of their native cities. They include the Gherkin (UK), the Sydney Harbour Bridge (AUS), the Guggenheim Museum (Spain) and the Empire State Building (USA).

The What's your favourite structure? campaign will raise awareness of the vital role structural engineers have played in shaping the modern world and its skyline. Voting will be conducted online through a dedicated website which, alongside a supporting brochure, will help voters choose their favourite structure.

Voters enter a free prize draw to win personally signed prints of the artwork or Nintendo Wii Games Consoles. Voting will close on Friday 26 September 2008 and the announcement of the winning structure will take place on Wednesday 1 October 2008.
