Four transport development schemes identified as regional priorities by the Yorkshire and Humber Regional Transport Board are vying for £26.4M in government funding.
Three of the four transport projects will focus on maintenance of the region's A-roads, while £14.3M of the total will be spent on expanding the regional rail network, centred on Leeds.
The details of the schemes are being submitted to government for consideration under the Regional Funding Allocation (RFA) process.
Transport planning consultant JMP, who have been working with the Yorkshire and Humber Regional Transport Board, identified the A636 in Wakefield, the A639 in Castleford and the A630 in Rotherham as in need of "exceptional maintenance schemes".
Each of the maintenance schemes would receive in the region of £4M funding in order to carry out the work if the grants are approved.
Last month the government unveiled a £2.7bn funding package for the region to regenerate the it's housing and transport networks, while boosting economic development.
It is also expected to issue advice on the second round of Regional Funding Allocations later this year.
