The striking cable stayed Newport city footbridge beat 13 competitors to win the Structural Steel Design Awards last week. The pedestrian crossing of the River Usk was designed by Atkins and architect Nicholas Grimshaw. Main contractor was Alfred McAlpine with Rowecord Engineering carrying out steelwork fabrication and erection.
Judges praised its structural ingenuity and attention grabbing aesthetics.
