The Gallery: The true victims of flooding in Somerset
The prolonged and persistent rainfall in Somerset flooded up to 40 properties last month. With more than twice the average rainfall for the time of year, the Environment Agency said it was doing everything it could to pump water off the Somerset Levels as quickly as river and tide levels allow. Existing flood defences protected over 200m2 of land and 3,500 properties, including in the surrounding towns of Langport, Martock, Ilchester and Ham.
