Recent events have propelled the ICE into the national news agenda over the past month, promoting engineering and its value to society.
Immediately after the collapse of the I-35W bridge in Minneapolis, US, on 1 August, the ICE fielded more than 40 enquiries from the media.
Most queries were handled by ICE vice president Scott Steedman, ICE director general Tom Foulkes, ICE Scotland’s Alan Simpson, and ICE Wales’s Ben Barr. This translated into press reports directly quoting the ICE in The Times, the Sun, the Mirror, the Scotsman and the Herald.
For broadcast media, TV interviews were arranged for Channel 4 news, ITN, BBC News 24 and six separate interviews for Sky.
Fifteen radio interviews were arranged, across BBC Radio 4, BBC Scotland and Classic FM.
Several interviews were also arranged in response to the floods in June and July.
ICE vice president Jean Venables and Scott Steedman handled these inquiries.
