Skelair reports rising rental demand

Delivery of three new Klemm drilling rigs has bolstered the drilling rental fleet of plant supplier Skelair, the company has announced, and will help meet the growing demand for rental equipment.

“There’s been a distinct shift in the market towards rentals over purchase of equipment, which has undoubtedly been driven by economic conditions,” said Skelair operations director John Mayo.

The three new Klemm rigs — two KR702-2 and a KR709-2 — will help meet the needs of mini-piling contractors. The small 4.5t KR702-2 has a telescopic mast and is capable of drilling with 450mm augers but Skelair has said the model offers engine power and carrying capacity improvements over the previous KR702-1 model. The 13t KR709-2 rig is Skelair’s second of this type, is capable of 450mm – 600mm holes, and has an extendible mast section.
