Bauer updates its BG 28 rotary rig

Bauer engineers have updated the company’s popular BG 28 rotary drilling rig to incorporate customer-driven design updates.

The rig features a new main winch, a re-engineered rotary drive, an improved counterweight design and a new Stage IIIB-compliant engine. According to Bauer, these updates mean that the rig – originally launched in 2004 – is now well adapted to current challenges and applications.

The rear upper carriage-mounted main winch has an increased line pull of 274kN – 10% more than the previous model. The redesigned system offers more space on the upper carriage for other equipment but also has a wider drum to allow for two layer operation for greater drilling depths.

Other improvements include an increase in torque on the rotary drive to 295kN, horizontally stacked counterweights to offer a constant tail radius and an improved cab design.
