Dubai's World Islands development to start next month
Construction of the first of The World islands, situated off Dubai’s coast, is expected to start as early as next month, while its other site developments await final clearances and permissions from the regulatory body, Trakhees.
Major construction activity on Nakheel’s development, a cluster of dredged islands in the shape of the globe’s continents, is scheduled to start in summer 2010. However, economic changes have led purchasers of the islands to reconsider their designs, prompting the developer to focus on supporting purchasers as they update their development strategies in order to move forward with their projects.
Group managing director, projects, for Nakheel, Marwan Al Qamzi, said:
“We are working with a core group of purchasers who are revising their designs to account for the changes in the economy. Developers are moving forward with revising their plans and entitling their projects.”
He continued: “Scopes have been updated to match their development strategies and construction commencement is anticipated for Q2 2010. Most construction schedules run for two to three years.”
Premier Real Estate Bureau of Safi Qurashi, who bought the Great Britain island for £35M (AED212.8M) in March last year, said his company will soon announce details of the project.
Chief executive officer of Select Property Mark Scott, said his company would begin construction on Aquitainia – a fusion of France and Spain – by Q2 of 2010.
