Millau Viaduct designer visits Birmingham
Michel Virlogeux recently visited Birmingham to discuss his engineering philosophy with ICE members from across the West Midlands.
Virlogeux is the man behind the design and construction of one of the engineering wonders of the 21st Century – the stunning Millau Viaduct in southern France.
An audience of over 150 civil engineers listened to the ICE gold medal winner and president of the European Construction Institute (ECI), speak for two hours on the theme: “Are Modern Engineers Inspirational?”
He referred to eminent engineers and their achievements from the past two centuries before describing some of his own projects, including the leading edge design of Pont de Normandie, the Millau Viaduct and Rouen Lift Bridge.
“Virlogeux achievements in bridge design are awe inspiring and have captured the imagination of people all over the world“
