SKM expands geotechnical team

SKM has announced the appointment of three new staff to expand its presence in New Zealand and South America.

The company has said that Charlie Watts and Ollie Hawes have joined the firm in New Zealand, bringing more than 25 years’ experience, while Antonio Velez, who has more than 30 years’ experience has joined in Chile as SKM’s geotechnical leader for South America.

”These appointments significantly strengthen SKM’s capabilities both locally and internationally,” said SKM geotechnical service line leader Mark Thorn. Thorn added that the appointments will strengthen the firm and build on the global growth it has seen in the last 18 months.

According to Thorn, Watts will add experience on major hydropower, tunnels, dams and irrigation schemes to the business, while Hawes will bring international experience in tunnels, infrastructure and the remediation of mine legacy. Thorn said that Velez brings critical experience across a considerable range of energy, mining, water and infrastructure projects.
