Nordsee Ost wind farm foundation contract awarded

Work on the grouted foundations for RWE Innogy’s 295MW Nordsee Ost wind farm is set to get underway following the award of the contract to Found Ocean.

The wind farm is located 30 km north of Helgoland off the German North Sea coast in 20 to 25m deep water and will be RWE’s first offshore development in German waters. Foundations for the 48 turbines and transformer substation will be formed by Found Ocean using four-legged jacket foundations grouted into the seabed using BASF Exagrout Masterflow 9500 cement-based grout.

The 50m long foundations, which weigh 550tonnes each, are currently being constructed by Kvaerner and will each support a 6MW turbine.

The wind farm is expected to be operational in 2013.
