Carbon benefits of tunnelling demonstrated by new calculator

Pipe jacking and microtunnelling techniques can offer carbon savings of up to 75% over conventional open cut methods, according to the Pipe Jacking Association.

The findings were made during development of the association’s carbon calculator tool, which was launched yesterday.

The free carbon calculator was developed for the association by TRL and verified by WRc and allows users to compare the environmental impact of pipe jacking and microtunnelling schemes with open cut techniques.
