BBGE invests in large diameter piling technology

Balfour Beatty Ground Engineering (BBGE) has said that addition of a new Bauer BG30 rig to its fleet will not only improve its large diameter piling technology but it will also improve information about the piles themselves.

The 106t rig marks a £1.15M investment to enable BBGE to extend its piling capabilities up to 2.4m diameters to depths of up to 64m.

According to BBGE, one of the rig’s key advantages is its complete electronic systems in place of hydraulics, which greatly enhance the control which can be achieved during delicate operations. The company has said that the on-board telematics can also be monitored remotely on an iPad or similar handheld device, with the detailed data ensuring that piles can be installed with a greater degree of accuracy than before,” said the company.

BBGE operations director Mark Ingram added: “This new rig allows us to drill bigger and deeper then we have before and is also quieter, quicker and more capable than standard rigs.”
