Bachy completes Grange Wind Farm piling work
Construction of the turbines for the Grange Wind Farm in Wisbech, Lincolnshore can now get underway following the completion of the foundations and ground improvement at the site.
W&H Alexander Civil Engineering is now working on building the seven wind turbines which are expected to generate 14MW of energy for client Renewable Energy Systems.
Foundations for the complex were undertaken by Bachy Soletanche, while sister company Vibro Menard carried out the ground improvement work.
Vibro’s work involved installing 1200 vibro stone columns, with diameters of 1.1 to 1.4m, to 8m to reduce settlement to 20mm and achieve bearing capacities of 200kPa to support the crane that will be used for the turbine construction.
The piling element of the contract saw Bachy install a mix of 450mm and 500mm diameter piles to depths of up to 28.5m to support the turbines, a meterological mast, a gas protection structure and the control building.
