Amrumbank windfarm reaches scour protection milestone
Construction work on the Amrumbank Offshore Wind Farm in the North Sea has reached a milestone with the first 15,000 scour protection sand bags produced ready to place on site this spring.
According to marine contractor Peter Marsden Rederi (PMR), this will be the first full scale use of bagged scour protection by the offshore wind sector in place of the conventional rock armoured solution. PMR has said that a third of the scour protection is now ready to be placed around the 80 mono pile turbines on the Amrumbank project that is being undertaken by Eon Climate and Renewables.
The company has said that the scheme is being supplied from a dock-side production plant in Rømø, Denmark where 500 sand bags are manufactured each day. The Naue Geosynthetics Secutex Soft Rock non woven sand bags are being filled with suction dredged marine sand.
