Costain wins £250M Midlands highways job
A joint venture between Costain and Lafarge has won a £250M Highways Agency maintenance framework contract in the Midlands.
The Framework 4 Midlands contract covers structural work, surfacing and roadworks in the Midlands Area up to a total framework value of £250M over two years.
The work will spend some of the fiscal stimulus cash brought forward for the Highways Agency last year.
Costain’s Chief Executive Andrew Wyllie said: “This framework appointment further strengthens Costain’s position as a market leader in highways maintenance in the UK and supports our near-term visibility of forward earnings.”
The joint venture will also be available to several Local and Unitary Authorities including Leicestershire, Northamptonshire, Derbyshire, Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire, Rutland, Peterborough and Staffordshire.
The Highways Agency was last week taken to task for maintenance overspending, which increased by between 17% and 70% since 2002/3..
