Royal Haskoning wins Palm Island bridge contract

Designs have been revealed for a bridge for the largest of the Palm Islands in Dubai.

The cable stayed bridge will link Palm Jebel Ali with the mainland. The 50m wide bridge will carry eight lanes of motorway traffic plus two pavements for cyclists and pedestrians.

The 450m long bridge is supported by 72 stay cables between two 135m high pylons.

Consultants Royal Haskoning were appointed by local developer, Nakheel, following its successful entry into an international competition to design the landmark. 

Royal Haskoning Board Member,Henry Rowe commented: "The Palm Island development and the Iconic Bridge are bywords for innovation and design on the grandest scale. We are extremely excited to be involved in this new project which is vast in its ambition and scope."
