Clyde Arc reopens

The Clyde Arc reopened to traffic last weekend, five months after a hanger failure caused it to close.

Three of the four lanes and a footpath of the Glasgow landmark bridge were reopened last Saturday. One lane and a footpath remained closed, while the painting of the parapets on that side is completed.  All four lanes are expected to be open for this coming weekend.

The bridge was closed in January after the connection at the top of a 35m long hanger, which carries load from the deck, failed causing it to fall onto the roadway.

Further inspections found a crack in another connection. This led to the decision to replace the connections on all fourteen hangers. Nuttalls, the original contractor on the bridge have completed the repair works within the six month timeframe agreed with the council in January.
