John McKenna
As NCE's news editor I am reponsible for making sure the magazine delivers exclusive, interesting stories every week, as well as breaking scoops online. My specialist areas of writing are the energy and waste sectors. There are also two projects that I have written more about than any others - the London 2012 Olympics and the Severn Barrage. With NCE's international outlook, life as a journalist can be incredibly varied and involve a great deal of travel. Within two months of joining NCE I found myself sleeping on an office floor in flooded New Orleans, covering the engineering efforts to stem the destruction of Hurricane Katrina. I spent my time having dirt blown in my face by Chinook helicopters, dodging wild dogs and eating my dinner onboard a dredging ship. More recent highlights include NCE's extensive coverage of the 2008 Channel Tunnel fire, which was followed by all the nationals, and having Tony Blair accuse me of trying to drag him back into British politics.
