Structural engineer James O’Donnell has been named Graduate of the Year in New Civil Engineer’s annual Graduate Awards.

James received his £1,000 prize at an awards ceremony at the Institution of Civil Engineers in Westminster, London. James said he never wavered on his path to becoming a civil engineer.

The 24-year-old became involved with the Royal Academy of Engineering while still at school, and completed a civil and architectural degree at the University of Bath.

He now works for major engineering consultancy Arup. “I now wake up thinking I could be solving another major design problem today,” he said.
