Six shortlisted in NCE Graduate Awards final
Six graduate civil engineers face interrogation from a 15-strong panel of industry leaders next week as they compete for the coveted NCE Graduate Awards 2010 prize.
The finalists have won through from a near record entry of 118 graduates working for over 50 companies and based as far afield as Australia, Mongolia, Hong Kong and India.
“There are some very bright young engineers out there and competition for the finalists’ places was particularly fierce” said award’s secretary David Hayward.
“The growing reputation of these awards encouraged us to increase prize money by 50%.”
The judging panel of senior directors from the awards’ major sponsoring companies, will next week choose the overall graduate of the year - who will receive a £1,500 cheque. It will also select two runners up and three highly commended entrants.
Results will be revealed at an awards lunch for 200 invited quests held at the ICE next month.
Judges are looking for engineering ability and academic excellence.
The six finalists are: Ben Biggs and Ed Dablin from Aecom; Mott MacDonald’s Phoebe Bointon; Harriet Kirk from Ramboll plus Arup graduates Stuart Ross and Henry Taylor.
