Latest news on NCE's Graduate Awards

Winner of the 2011 NCE Graduate Awards is 23 year old Claire Gott from Southampton University and now a structural engineer with WSP Group.
Claire received her trophy, a cheque for £1250 and lots of praise from an audience of 190 industry leaders gathered for the Awards lunch held at the ICE on Friday 2 December.
The judges described Claire as "a passionate engineer, possessing confidence without arrogance; infectiously inspiring and oozing leadership and enthusiasm."
Joint runners up, each winning £600, were Simon Rawlins from Newcastle University and now with Amey; and Jonathan Han, Liverpool University and Balfour Beatty Utility Solutions.
Highly commended, and going home with £300 cheques, were Sivasakthy Selvakumaran, Cambridge University and Gifford; Paul McNulty, PhD student at Queens University Belfast and James Holloway, Edinburgh University and Arup.

NCE Graduate of the Year revealed
NCE Graduate of the Year Claire Gott confirmed this week that she intends to devote her £1,250 first prize to the engineering charity Cameroon Catalyst that she founded three years ago at Southampton University. In the past she has raised over £90,000 towards infrastructure development of her chosen central African village Bambouti.

The 16 senior director judges, drawn from the Awards' company sponsors shown above, highlighted one answer from a candidate who didn't quite make the final six, but responded to the entry form question 'describe in 50 words why you chose to become a civil engineer.'

Entries for the 2012 NCE Graduate Awards will open in late Spring 2012. To qualify you must have completed a civil engineering – or related – degree course in 2011.
