Crossrail vital for London's financial future

The news that the hybrid bill for Crossrail has at last received Royal Assent reminded me that in November 1992, when I was Lord Mayor of London, my speech at the Lord Mayor's Banquet was largely devoted to trying to convince the then Prime Minister (John Major) of the necessity of pushing ahead with the project.

Hopefully, there will be no more delays, and 2017 will see the completion of a project that has long been seen as vital to London's future as the world's premier financial centre.
