Crossrail and Channel Tunnel Rail Link bosses recognised in New Year Honours list

Morgan receives his CBE for services to public transport in his outgoing role as chief Executive of Tube maintenance firm Tube Lines.

He leaves Tube Lines in the summer to take up the role of non-executive chairman of Cross London Rail Links, the Transport for London subsidiary charged with delivering London's £16bn Crossrail scheme.

He may yet be joined at Crossrail by fellow CBE winner Rob Holden, who remains hot favourite to take the chief executive role.

Holden receives his CBE for his role in the successful delivery of the Channel Tunnel Rail Link Project (now known as High Speed 1) and the restoration of St Pancras Station.

There was also an OBE for CTRL's technical director and deputy project director Mike Glover. Glover, also an Arup Fellow, receives his OBE for for services to engineering.

Also receiving an OBE is HPR’s Tim Khan, the UK’s representative in Bangladesh for the Institution of Civil Engineers, who is honoured with an OBE for services to UK/Bangladesh trade and development relations and corporate social responsibility.

Khan has been working in Bangladesh for 21 years on infrastructure development work funded by international agencies particularly the UK Department for International Development (DFID).

In the aftermath of cyclone Sidr in November 2007, Khan volunteered his services to act as Project Co-ordinator to deliver emergency humanitarian assistance. In this capacity, he was also involved in the reconstruction and transformation of Majher Char, a small island in South West Bangladesh which was almost completely destroyed by the cyclone which left 164 families homeless.

Other engineers honoured include an OBE for Geoff Snow for services to the construction industry and to apprenticeships in Wales, an MBE
for Harold Green, chief road safety officer at the Northern Ireland Executive for public and voluntary service, and an MBE for Barry Haseltine for services to the construction industry.

There was also an MBE for Michael Norton, currently serving on the ICE’s Water Panel, for services to the water industry.

Norton, managing director of consultant Halcrow, represents Halcrow and British interests throughout the globe. In 2007, he was appointed chair of the UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) India Water Working Group; whilst in 2008 he joined the UKTI’s Water Sector Advisory Group. He is a visiting lecturer for Oxford University’s MSc in Water Science and Policy and former Chair of the Water Programme Advisory Committee at Cranfield University.

ICE director general Tom Foulkes said: "It is great to see the work of civil engineers being recognised at the highest level."
