Controversial climate change paper discussed
The meeting began with Professor David Bellamy of the Conservation Foundation and Dr Jack Barratt of the Advisory Forum of the Scientific Alliance presenting their paper Climate Stability: an inconvenient proof, where they argued that the increasedlevels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere may not result in serious planet warming.
They also said that current climate models were associated with several uncertainties and were unreliable.
"Take carbon out of your in-tray and get on with what you're good at; looking after people, providing drinking water, building efficiently and recycling," said Bellamy.
A rebuttal came from Professor Jim Hall from the Tyndall Centre's Cities research programme, who presented his paper Earth systems engineering: turning vision into action.
His talk was followed by Professor Julian Hunt of UCL whose a paper Climate change and engineering challenges expressed the more conventional view that carbon emissions are related to climate change.
