Buro Happold and HRW reign supreme at Structures

Buro Happold and Haskins Robinson Waters received the Supreme Award for structural engineering excellence at the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE) 40th anniversary Structural Awards this week.

The team's ground-breaking Savill Building design in Windsor Great Park initially won the Arts, Leisure and Entertainment Structures category for its innovative and unique structural design which incorporates a floating timber roof.

Saville was then selected ahead of twelve other category winners as the outstanding example of structural engineering for 2007 and awarded the Supreme Award.

More than 400 guests attended the awards dinner and ceremony, which took place in the art deco setting of Lawrence Hall in London. The Awards 40th anniversary coincided with the IStructE’s centenary year.

"2007 has been a landmark year for the Structural Awards with a record 151 entries, the sheer diversity of which demonstrates the innovation and creativity that epitomises structural engineering," said president of IStructE Sarah Buck.

"The Awards serve as an industry benchmark, and it is an outstanding achievement for a project to be shortlisted in any the award categories."

Other category winners included Dresden Railway Station, the Sheppey Crossing, Emirates Stadium and the New Life Boat Station RNLI Padstow.
